Illness & Disability

Staying active

Group of friends playing basketball with girl in wheelchairOne of the best things you can do for your health is find an activity that gets your body moving and stick with it. Having certain limits because of a disability or illness may make it harder, but it doesn't need to stop you from staying active. It just means you have to focus on what you can do, not on the things that you can’t do.

Being active can:

  • Be fun, whether you do things on your own or with friends
  • Make you feel better inside and out
  • Boost your energy
  • Help you feel less bored or sad
  • Help you handle stress
  • Help keep away other health problems in the future
