Volunteer with Us, Change a Life!

“I think there’s a middle school girl inside every woman, no matter how much time passes.  As volunteers, it is so meaningful to know that as we continue our own personal growth, we are making a huge difference.”  - Yesmean Rihbany,  former Board Chair

Junior Mentors

High School Volunteers under 18 years old

Our Junior Mentor program empowers high school girls by training them to facilitate and deliver our Annual Empowerment Conference and other events. Through their role in guiding younger girls, Junior Mentors help create a supportive community that fosters participation and personal growth. This experience strengthens their leadership abilities and boosts their confidence, while inspiring the next generation of empowered leaders.

ROLE OF JUNIOR MENTORS:

  • Help organize and lead future workshops and events

  • Bring fresh ideas to the program

  • Facilitate discussions

  • Lead presentations

  • Encourage the participation of younger girls

  • Share their wisdom

TRAINING & COACHING

Training & Coaching Junior Mentors participate in a 4-hour training session & receive coaching from Adult Mentors throughout the planning and delivery of the Empowerment Conference. During this process, they develop essential skills in public speaking, facilitation, & organization, all while increasing their self-esteem and confidence in their abilities to explore & fulfill other challenging roles.

*Both Adult and Jr. Mentor applications will be open from November 1, 2024 to February 9, 2025

All Mentors must have a current Live Scan on file with 4GIRLS, since we work with minors (children under 18 years of age) and our insurance carrier requires that all volunteers working directly with minors have a Live Scan report. Live Scan is a digitally scanned fingerprint service.

From Mentee to Mentor

Starting from being a shy middle schooler to now being an outgoing drama kid has been in part due to the confidence the workshop instilled in me. Knowing that other [girls] were going through the same rough time I was at that age made me feel connected and part of a community.

When I was attending my first workshop, [Kirsten Miller] was my mentor and one of the people who inspired me to stay with the program. Everything kind of came full circle when in one of the workshops I was able to work as a mentor alongside her.

Host a Discovery Event

Leverage your connections, hobbies, and interests to create unique opportunities for girls to explore. Here are a few examples:

🌸 Are you an artist who can lead a creative workshop for girls?

🌸 Can you lead dynamic and energizing dance or fitness sessions?

🌸 Do you have access to a cool venue in Long Beach for girls to explore?

🌸 Do you know someone who can lead an outdoor adventure for girls?

🌸 Can you organize a theater, dance, or music workshop to spark inspiration?

🌸 Can you arrange a tour of a workplace where women thrive in unique roles?

Your involvement can open doors for young girls to discover new passions, build confidence, and envision limitless possibilities for their futures. We’d love to hear your ideas! If you have a passion or interest you'd like to share, please fill out the volunteer interest form and let us know how you’d like to get involved.
